Individuals who are incarcerated at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center and Northern Neck Region Jail can receive a wide range of mental health and substance abuse services. Limited services are available at the Gloucester and Lancaster Jails. Our staff provides treatment and links to community resources prior to an inmate’s release. Individuals have access to mental health therapists, substance abuse counselors, and a jail case manager.
Forensic Services refers to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness or suspected mental illness who are also involved with the Courts. MPNN CSB provides forensic mental health services in three different ways:
Restoration Services: For individuals who have been found Incompetent to Stand Trial, the Court often orders that efforts be made to restore these individuals to competency. Community Based Restoration Services are for individuals who reside in the community or individuals who are incarcerated. Inpatient restoration services are conducted at the state hospital level with the support and coordination of staff from the Intensive Community Services (ICS).
Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI): These are individuals who have been acquitted of a crime committed because they were deemed “insane” at the time of the offense. Intensive Community Services (ICS) provides discharge planning if the individual is in the state hospital. Conditional Release development is also a provided service for individuals who are in the state hospital level or in the community-based level. If the Courts approve a Conditional Release Plan for these individuals, ICS provides case management and other identified services while monitoring the Conditional Release Plan.
Criminal Temporary Detention Order: This refers to individuals who are currently incarcerated but in need of emergency psychiatric care at the state hospital level.
