Coalition Outreach

The primary goal of prevention coalition outreach programs is to help people become involved in making their communities and neighborhoods healthier, safer, and more positive places to live and work. The following programs offer opportunities for community involvement and are available to those residing within the ten-county Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board (MPNNCSB) area. For more information about how you can get involved in a coalition in your community, please call 804.758.9398 or 800.PREV550.

The Rural Virginia United Coalition
This regional, community-based coalition proactively and collaboratively addresses problems facing youth in their communities. The mission of the RVUC is to promote positive youth development by strengthening community efforts to prevent substance abuse, violence, child abuse, school failure, juvenile delinquency, premature sexual behavior, teen pregnancy, and suicide. Since 2000, the RVUC has awarded multiple mini-grants to a wide range of community groups and organizations for implementation of prevention programming in their communities. Please call 804.758.9398 for more information on the availability of this funding for your community.

Ten Community-Based Prevention Alliances
These local prevention groups are comprised of members from multiple key sectors of the ten rural communities served by the MPNNCSB. They plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based prevention programs in their respective communities.

Project Sticker Shock
This program is one of many community-based and statewide strategies being implemented throughout Virginia. The goal is to reduce underage drinking and to reach those persons 21 years of age and older who might purchase alcohol for minors.
